My favorite car is the 2002 Nissan R34 Skyline GT-R in its esteemed bayside blue paint job. The Skyline is my favorite car simply because it is elegant it stands for what other cars can just not hold up too. Its engine is rather small it’s an Rb26DET engine which if you didn’t know is a 2.6 liter straight 6 turbo engine producing around 276 horsepower. The amazing thing about the RB26DET engines and other RB series engines is that they can make up to 400 or more horsepower on stock internals. So rather than rebuilding the engine all you have to do to squeeze more power out of the car is get a bigger turbo. It’s also one of the quickest cars off the line because it is all wheel drive. The R34 is the predecessor to the R35 skyline which in my personal opinion has taken the man out of the car. Along with a lot of newer sports cars the R35 skyline has paddle shifter’s which means it has a dual clutch transmission. This is a good thing if you do not enjoy manually shifting and like to go fast and not drive. This transmission as well as the technology that is integrated into the R35 and its v6 is actually quite advanced and produces a lot more horsepower. The engine is actually a lot larger and is a whole different engine all together. The VR38DETT is a 3.8 liter twin turbo engine and it makes 545 hp. The reasoning behind disliking the R35 skyline consists purely because of its engine and how they revamped everything taking away the straight 6 and making it a twin turbo. The RB26DET can make almost unlimited amounts of power and can be tuned to make over a thousand horsepower. On the other hand the v6 VR38DETT can only make a little over stock with heavy modifications and will not let you go its full speed on the street. I truly believe the R34 is more of a tuners car where as the R35 is just a remake to satisfy the GT-R fans. Even Prince Motor Company would be disappointed to see they’re skyline stripped of its name and stuffed with a million computers. The RB series engine is just so amazing because it’s small displacement makes it somewhat fuel efficient, lighter which makes it more agile and grip the road better. All these reasons contribute to my reasoning behind liking the R34 over the R35 not to mention the R34 is just a classic.
